Certified Restorative assessment
This organization is assessed separately for each role it holds. A harvester and a ranching facility are evaluated on different things, so they carry different scores.

How these tiers are defined
- Restorative
- Demonstrates net-positive contribution to kelp forest recovery, plus a solid baseline across locality, transparency, and labor criteria. Existing sustainable-seafood rating systems have no equivalent tier — they score harm avoidance, not restoration.
- Sustainable
- Low-harm and compliant, but not demonstrating documented net-positive restoration contribution.
- Developing
- Meaningful gaps in data or practice. This is a path, not a rejection — organizations here are working toward disclosure or practice changes.
Carbon impact is deliberately not scored numerically. Kelp carbon sequestration remains genuinely unsettled science, and a clean number would imply more rigor than currently exists.

Active listings
Purple urchin listings declare roe status. Urchins taken from barrens typically carry little roe until fed, so “wild-direct” means quality is unconfirmed at point of sale.
